Blog #43 - Therapy Scene Setting

This therapy scene allowed for a very realistic view. It made my film look more believable. With Colia using Dawns office I was allowed to film her walking in, walking out and being inside of the therapy room. Dawns office is filled with lots of decorations. There are leaves on the back wall, inspirational quotes around the room, pictures of Dawns family, and a few more things. All of these things put together makes the room more cozy. It shows that the office is a real therapy office. Along with the decor, there are panflets that educate families and patients laying on the table.

For this scene I had Dawn sit next to Colia. Typically, during Dawns actual appointments she doesn't sit next to her clients. She usually sits at her desk and talks to her patients at a distance. This is to make them feel comfortable and relaxed. That way she not in their personal space. However, I wanted Dawn to sit next to Colia in this scene. I wanted her to be next to Colia so I could use a two-shot camera shot. This allowing for those watching to see both of them at the same time. Showing how Dawn was talking and in the same moment being able to see Colia reacting to what she is saying. It allows for a full view of what is going on. If I didn't have them sitting next to eachother I wouldn't have been able to incorporate this shot. They also would have been very distanced. Which would have made it look as if they were awkward. I wanted it to look more comfortabe and calm rather than awkward.
