Genre hybridity is shown in my film with thriller and drama. Genre hybridity has mulitple names, however, its commonly know as literature that combines mutiple different genres into one text. This can be romance and comedy (rom-com), sci-fi and drama, horror and thriller, etc. This is used to broadan the audience of those watching. So, those who like comedy and those who like romance are both brought into a rom-com. Due to my film using thriller and drama it broadens the interest to a bigger audience. It can be confusing to audiences or marketers but overall it is a very common way to intrigue people.
Popular examples of thriller, drama is "The Black Phone" and "The Maze Runner". The Black Phone movie is about a thirteen year old boy that gets kidnapped by a killer and trapped in a basement. Due to the movie having abduction, fighting, and action it catergorizes into a thriller. The film also falls under drama due to the characters, age, storyline, tension, and language. This cross over between the two genres allows for the movie to catch the interest of a lot more people. If the movie was just thriller it wouldn't interest the drama lovers, and the other way around.
This applys to "The Maze Runner" as well. In this movie a bunch a teenage boys are sent to a maze with no memory of how they got there. Thomas is the main charcater as he is more curious and worried then the rest. The maze is a trial to see if they can grow immune to the virus that is taking over the outside world. As they build up the courage to escape, they find out the shocking truth about everything. There are three of these movies and they are classified as many genres. Out of the genres it also include thriller and drama.
These movies are very inspiration for my film as they blend the two genres together very well. Genre hybridity is cleverly shown with these two films. They have a good mix of both genres and are very intriguing movies. I love the genres I chose and I loves all movies involving these genres. They are a perfect mix and I hope to show this with my film as well!
