Blog #10 - Lighting Research

Lighting is very important to set the mood of scenes and filming in general. Since my film is a drama thriller base, there are just a few lightings to use. To set the scene I will be using, high key lighting, low key lighting, natural night, and back lighting. Lighting sets a mood and provides detail to those watching. When the lighting matches the scene it puts the scene together and allows for an enjoyable view. Since my project is drama/ thriller, thats why i cjose those lightings. As they are the most common to be seen in scenes of emotion.

Out of the four lightings listed high key lighting is odd compares to them. However, high key lighting will be apart if this for the scene of Colia walking out of her room and any scene that has light from a lightbulb. So a bathroom scene or anything as the such. It will be the least used for my project, which is expected. It will be used a way less then low key lighting.

Low key ligthing will be my main goal for my project. Majority as my film will use it to set the numbness and confusion of Colia. Since she is sad and going through alot, it would make the most sense to have it as my main source of light. It will be used for the therapy scene, with dim lighting. Along with being shown when Colia is in her room, when Colia is panicking, and a few more scenes.

Natural light will be a little less common. It will be shown with the point of view shot of the dangerous men/ robbers trying to break in. Since for that scene they're outisde, it will be during the day. This allowing for clear sight of what they're doing and the ability to see the camera on the ring doorbell. My door has that ringdoor bell that is on the right side, this allowing for my family to be notified anytime movement or a person is detected through the camera. With the natural light of the outdoors it will provide that image and make the scene more believable, and put my vision to action.

For theback lighting it is a bit different. I was researching different lights and where they are the most common. When I found back lighting I thought it would be unique. It shines specifically behind what/who is being recording. I am still trying to figure out how I want to incorporate it. I have an idea for Colias hug scene when she finally comes to someone about how she is feeling, to use this lighting. It will come to me when I get more into these blogs and begin the filming process. This lighting topic will be brought up again in a later blog. To confirm my choice of lightings for each scene.
