Blog #44 - Therapy Costuming

This scene was very different then my other scenes. It shows alot of detail. For this scene I wanted to make it as realistic as I could. This being why Briana and I went to Dawns work while she was working. A client cancelled so we filled in the session time with our filming. Due to that, Dawn was wearing an outfit that she wears on a regular workday . Her outfit is authentic and perfect for this scene.

To make this look like a real appointment I asked Dawn what she usually is holding when a new patient comes in for the first time. I also asked her to look at Brianas emotions and to determine what she would think Colia is experiencing. She said it felt like anxiety/depression. She explained that if Colia was a real pateint she would try to gain her interest through asking her comforting questions. This being things like friends, family, interests, etc. So, I told her to grab anything that she would be holding when talking to her patient. She said she would be holding a clipboard with a "Saftey Plan" sheet. She explained that this would be for thoughts of suicide, lack of emotion, and depression.

For her outfit in the scene she had her glasses on that she would usually be wearing. She then grabbed a pen and the clipboard. This put the costuming together and made her look the part. For Colia, she was wearing a regular outfit. Originally, she was going to wear something bummy and comfortable. However, she was wearing the same outift from a previous scene. Right after that film was supposed to be her going to therapy. So, we stuck with the outfit she had. It looks nice, its not too much and its not too shabby.
